Dear Brothers Leon and Farzam,
Harmony Renaissance Gate, Plaza, Pavilion, Garden,
Fountain and more are timely pursuits very necessary for
Harmony World. They create excitement, resonance and
attention from the vast public.
When they are done right with the support of well known
architects and artists they can generate financial return also.
The investment is modest relative to the full blown Harmony
Renaissance City.
Some possible first sites can be U N Headquarters, China and
the Middle East major cities, including Beijing, Tibet, Singapore
and Dubai where harmony can play an important role. For
China, Harmony Renaissance is China's Renaissance.
Harmony is the essence of Chinese culture although it has
been neglected. The Chinese government really should
promote Harmonious Society as Socialism with Chinese
characteristics. After all, the US government never hesitates
to claim Liberty as our spirit. Eastern Harmony must finally be
regarded as the most universal common value along side
Liberty for the world to come together harmoniously.
Attached is our plan that can lead into the reality for Harmony
Renaissance City.
Continuing our discussions and my last email on subject matter
our next step is to follow up the idea of the Harmony
Renaissance chain franchise as a business venture. My
attorney already started the motion. A more detail plan is
being put to work.
The Chinese central and local government and party schools
should welcome the idea of a business venture under the
franchise name of Harmony Renaissance. This could be
bigger than McDonald, Star Buck and CoCo Cola. There is no
reason once the name Harmony Renaissance catches on it
cannot be the biggest brand name to promote Harmony World.
Let us toast with our Harmony Renaissance (HR) drinks!
We have harmony spirit, culture and faith, the most common
value of human culture. McDonald and Starbuck succeeded
without culture and soul except good mangement and
promotion. Harmony Renaissance is the future world, we are
at the leading edge. China can associate Harmony
Renaissance as Socialism with Chinese characteristics. The
Middle East can unify all religion under the umbrella of
Harmony Renaissance. There is no reason HR cannot be the
most popular brand name. As we discussed before, we must
walk with both spiritual and practical legs.

AND HARMONY RENAISSANCE STATUE
World Harmony Organization (WHO) is a non government think
tank dedicated to the theoretical foundation for world unity in
diversity under the most universal common value of Harmony.
Today’s confrontational world calls for a universal unifying
belief acceptable to all mankind. Harmony Renaissance is the
inevitable tide. Harmony Renaissance will transcend diverse
culture, ideology and religion. Our mission is to work with
Friends of U N in Harmony to instill the necessary harmony

World Harmony Organization (WHO) began in San Francisco,
California as a harmony discussion group in the spring of
2004. The need for improved understanding between the U S
and China was felt by the group under prevailing Western
media assertions of China threat, religious confrontations,
cultural divisiveness and the aftermath of 911 terrorist attacks
on United States. The original founders, including Francis C W
Fung, Julia A Devendorf and John Delfavero growing up in the
diverse American cultural environment, were imbued with the
conviction that unity in diversity and East West harmony must
begin with U S- China harmony. This led to the early
introduction of Chinese ancient harmony philosophy of
Confucius and Laozi to the publications of WHO articles in the
world media, websites and blogsites.
In October 2007, World Harmony Organization was registered
in California as a nonprofit public benefit corporation and
announced to the world by Xinhuanet and through many other
U.S. and China internet news media sources worldwide,
including the premier international relations journal “Foreign
Affairs”. World Harmony Organization was organized by
modeling United Nations Non Government Organizations
allowing for independent Commissions and maximum
participations of honorary directors and senior advisers.
Shortly after its early conception, WHO was fortunate to have
attracted the resonance of visionary Americans and Chinese
Americans with diverse natural and social science
backgrounds and talents. This led to the development of the
comprehensive Harmony Renaissance platform with global
inclusiveness to pursue world harmony. Harmony
Renaissance, envisioned as the second wave of human
creative energy after European Renaissance, will release
mankind from the shackles of bondage and baggage of
distrust and suspicion.
Subsequently, with the infusion of the dynamic Harmony
Renaissance Model and Eastern and Western model of
universe creation by invisible energy, our systematic theory
“Harmony Faith: Order of the Universe” began to take shape.
These theories are firmly rooted in harmony as the order of
nature and the law of universe. They can be applied to all
human relations and relation with nature. For more details, see

Nations Speech, April 25, 2008 by World Harmony

The previously mentioned Staff Day Speech to United Nations
was a resounding success. In the meeting we introduced the
First Global World Harmony City proposal and our Harmony
Renaissance and Harmony Faith theory. Both theories
received resonance from Friends of United Nations in
Harmony. Dr. Noel Brown, President of Friends of United
Nations, announced as moderator of the U. N. Forum that
Harmony Renaissance and Harmony Faith are the missing
theories U.N. needs to continue pursuing a Harmony World.
The new theories prepare the coming of Harmony
Renaissance tide for the next level of human achievements
after European Renaissance.

“HARMONY RENAISSANCE PREAMBLE”In the East harmony
as a social science theory was evolved from natural science
observation by Lao Zi. Human in harmony with the universe is
called Tian Ren He Yi. Einstein was also quoted as saying the
order of nature is not accidental. Harmony is the order of
nature. Harmony belongs to the World and to the Universe.
"HARMONY RENAISSANCE DECLARATION"Harmony is the
highest common value. Renaissance is action. Together they
have life. Harmony is the order of natural science and the
fundamental law of the universe. Harmony is dynamic energy
balance and is also the principle of universe creation. From the
very beginning, the Universe is created by the infinite invisible
energy in thefirmament. The invisible energy that created the
universe can also be called DAO. Lao Zi said "Dao created
one, one created two, two created three, three created all
things.All things carry Ying and embrace Yang. Dynamic
balance creates harmony."
Lao Zi's harmony theory of universe is in unison with modern
quantum physics. Harmony renaissance is the guiding principle
to be applied to natural and social sciences. It is the break
through that will take us to the next level of human creativity
and accomplishment beyond European Renaissance.

officials, ladies and gentlemen:
I, Francis C W Fung, am honored to be here to represent
World Harmony Organization (WHO). World Harmony
Organization pursues and also advocates Harmony
Renaissance. Harmony is mankind’s highest common value
and Renaissance is action. Together Harmony Renaissance
has new life. Our vision and mission is to provide the Harmony
Renaissance theoretical foundation for United Nations to carry
on its mission for world harmony.
I am here to share with you our Harmony Renaissance
Preamble and Declaration. So without much ado here is our
slide. I will talk around our Harmony Renaissance Preamble
and Declaration, give you my explanations and answer
questions at the end.
In the East, Harmony as a social science was evolved from
natural science observation by Laozi. Human in harmony with
the universe is called “Tian Ren He Yi.” Laozi left us with his
5000 words treatise Dao De Jing. It is the most translated
Chinese book on way of life. The Chinese practice Fengshui
which is a way to harmonize with nature and the environment.
In the West, Einstein was also quoted as saying the order of
nature is not accidental. In his words “Mother Nature does not
play dice”. Harmony is the order of nature. Harmony belongs
to the world and to the universe.
Harmony is the order of natural science and the fundamental
law of the universe. Harmony is not passive. It advocates
action and dynamic balance. Most people have the fallacy of
thinking of harmony as static. We must think of harmony in
terms of fluid dynamics, like the movement of air and water. It
can be soft and it can be strong. It is in constant movement
and influx for sure. Harmony is dynamic energy balance and is
also the principle of universe creation. Through harmony
interaction the universe is created. Without harmony our
universe cannot be eternal.
From the very beginning, the universe is created by the infinite
invisible energy in the firmament. The invisible energy that
created the universe can also be called Dao. The word Dao in
Chinese has two parts, one stands for the head, the other part
for motion. Together they mean primal force that leads the

all natural and social sciences. Harmony governs all human
relations from within us, between people, in the family, in the
society, between citizens and government, among
governments and among all people in this global village. It can
be applied to ecology, green energy inventions, and green
energy developments for example. Harmony includes all the
important virtues to make the world harmonious. These
include among others, forgiveness, humility, equity, patience,
tolerance and acceptance.
Harmony Renaissance is the break through that will take us to
the next level of human creativity and accomplishment beyond
European Renaissance. European Renaissance brought us
democracy and modern science. Harmony Renaissance
includes democracy, and it unshackles us from all bondage
and baggage of human distrust. It resolves hostilities and
reduces rich and poor disparity. Harmony Renaissance is the
inevitable tide we are waiting for. It will allow nations on this
global village really moving towards win-win mutual
development. It is the second creative wave after European
renaissance that will bring all mankind to the next level of
accomplishment.

HARMONY FAITH, ORDER OF THE UNIVERSE
INTRODUCTION
The major religions of the world as we know today all
originated in Greater Asia which includes the Middle East and
South Asia. This is no coincidence, as all monotheistic religions
believe in the same God, Allah, Creator, Heaven or what other
names we use. What makes religions different is cultural
heritage. Each major religion’s man made image of God is
thus inherently different. This fixation on the difference of each
culture’s institutionalized and man made image of God is
unnecessary and divisive.
There can only be one creator for all mankind regardless of
what name is used or what religion one believes in. Thus in
time, all religions must converge into one faith by transcending
each religion’s cultural fixations and universally accepting one
creator without a man made image. This is the evitable
progressive development.The eminent contemporary Ying
Yang master Ma Shuhai, in his book “Tong Dao”, classified the
continuous development of human religions into four
progressive stages. The following description bears significant
additional explanation by the present author.
The stage of primitive idols worship: This was the pure
irrational superstition stage. When man was very much in awe
of subject to nature’s destructive powers such as fire water
and wind.
The stage of trust in one communicative God: Monotheistic
faiths that evolve around one all mighty and powerful creators
that man could develop a relation with and turn to for help.
These types of institutionalized faiths with a specific creator
with man- made image include most of the major religion s of
today. Today mankind as a whole is suffering from the divisive
forces of this culturally specific monotheism. The exception
being Buddhism, which teaches believers to find inner peace
and Buddha within oneself without the monotheistic creator.
Chinese accept Dao as the force of universe creation which is
distinct from the Judah-Christian tradition.
The rational stage of scientific religion: When man believes in
his rational power. In this stage man can turn to science to
explain all aspects of life except the meaning of life. This
ushered in the modern Bahai Faith, which upholds progressive
revelation from God. Bahai faith as a modern religion also
emphasizes unity of religion and science. These two important
concepts possibly herald in the era of less dependency on one
Monotheistic creator in a man- made image. .
The final stage is Harmony Faith, Order of the Universe: This
is the life study of a final and decisive faith that has confidence
in the modern discovery of the all prevalent and infinite invisible
dark energy of the universe. We are currently at the very
beginning of this life study. To become a universal faith it must
do without a man-made creator image. We can also call this
the relative rational inductive stage.
HARMONY FAITH, ORDER OF THE UNIVERSE
In the following concise dissertation we will explain how this
natural faith can reconcile science and religion once and for all.
On top of that we will give the meaning of life a very
achievable goal. In this stage the door is also open for
continuing human progressive inspiration from the omnipresent
and all prevalent Dao, the invisible dark energy that created
the universe. Together with modern science this concept
makes a creator with man made image unnecessary.Harmony
is a universal common value; it is also a vision statement for
all. It is the order of nature and the universe for all to emulate.
Harmony is the dynamic balance that returns nature’s
calamities to tranquility. Without harmony the universe cannot
be eternal. In harmony we can find true belief that transcends
all cultures and religions.
The meaning of life is to seek harmony within our inner self.
Humans are born with a spiritual soul that develops to seek
self fulfillment and self salvation. Our soul has a conscience
that elevates us from total animal selfishness. As our soul
grows to its maturity we must achieve our own harmony. A
person at the end of his journey reconciles with his own soul to
achieve harmony and peace of mind. The difference between
a tormented soul and a soul in harmony at our death is the
difference between hell and heaven.The invisible energy in the
firmament created the universe and all creatures. This is our
creator regardless of our religion and belief.
Our soul is an energy field that grows with our
accomplishments on earth. With differing strengths embedded
in our DNA Humans are not created equal just as sure our
souls will not develop equally. Static equality is not what life is
all about. Each soul attaining its own harmony with itself is the
meaning of life. The achievement of harmony by nature and us
is a dynamic process. The evolution of nature and life are
dynamic processes and must not be considered as static
phenomena. Harmony renaissance is a dynamic process and
calls for proactive action.There is a fine line between a
believer and non believer of any religion. A true creator will
accept all because all humans attest to harmony. Cultural
differences are only in form and not in essence.
Harmony is the salvation of mankind and the king of unity in
diversity. The universe and all living creations through evolution
are created by the invisible energy and are sustained by
energy. This theory without man made heavenly images does
not contradict conventional religious beliefs. Furthermore it is a
rational way of agreeing with modern sciences. Our soul is
merely an energy field that contains our spirit, life time beliefs
and experiences. It exists eternally and has a beginning and no
end after our death. Each soul can accomplish harmony with
itself but souls are not necessarily equal. We are here on
earth to develop our own soul from its early immature
conception.
Religions begin with search of truth, goodness and beauty.
This search will ultimately help us to reach harmony at death.
All religions preach harmony because harmony is the most
common value and the greatest common denominator of
mankind. Conflicts in religion are caused by human corruption.
Belief in harmony, the universal truth, does not need a man
made image of creator. The invisible energy as the creator of
the universe does not contradict with modern science. This
imaging of the creator does not contradict any religious beliefs
and is not divisive. In time this imaging of the creator without
man made figure will reconcile all religions as the true scientific
belief. According to modern science the invisible energy of the
universe is all powerful and omnipresent. It is part of the
paradigm of Faith in Harmony. Many religions believe in
brotherhood of mankind. What has kept us from achieving
unity in diversity are the differences in religious culture and the
cultural centric creator figures conjured by different religions.
The ancient harmony cultural philosophy promulgated by Lao-
tzu and Confucius did not rely on man made images of
creators.
As an ancient culture China did not create a religion of its own.
Modern Chinese are more accepting of outside religions. This
is witnessed by the lack of major religious wars in China
despite the importation of many outside religions. Over two
thousand years harmony philosophy modified Chinese major
beliefs and outside religions to suit China’s cultural heritage.
China’s ancient harmony philosophy fulfills her people’s need
for self fulfillment and spiritual tranquility. This harmonizing
process of various belief systems can be a model for the
future world harmony.
A person who does not practice institutionalized religion can
achieve inner peace through harmony practices. The universal
belief in the invisible energy as the creator in the firmament
reconciles all religions and faiths. Faith in Harmony is thus the
most acceptable Faith that transcends mankind’s conflicts of
fear and greed. Harmony on earth that promises unity in
diversity is the promise of Kingdom on Earth and the Most
Great Peace on earth by all sages and prophets. A person
achieves self fulfillment has reached harmony in his own soul
and his life is complete and his soul is eternal and everlasting
without torment.We believe in harmony renaissance which is

The count down to the 2008 Olympic Games is continuing.
Soon 13,000 athletes and coaches from around the world will
descend on Beijing together with a large contingent of
journalists and estimated 300,000 foreign visitors. There are
predictions that 2008 will be the best and biggest Olympics,
ever hosted by the most populous developing nation in the
world. With these large numbers of foreign convoys shuttling
between competition venues and wandering through the
streets of Beijing among a population of over 15 million,
imagine what great cultural exchange opportunity it presents.
The sheer number of goodwill contacts possible within the
confines of one city and in the short span of weeks is
staggering and unprecedented in history. Cultural exchanges
and good will visits infused with Olympic Spirit can be the
greatest way to promote world understanding. Understanding
can lead to mutual acceptance and trust that is the prerequisite
for world harmony.
Yet there are some shortsighted among us who fail to see the
Beijing Olympic as a unique and unsurpassed way to cultivate
a spirit that can enhance friendship and brotherhood in our
global village. Traditionally this is also called the Olympic
Spirit. For those who spend time fanning bigotry and laboring
for prejudiced excuses to boycott the Olympic Games, we
must ask where is our Olympic Spirit and our belief in
harmony? For those among us who still live in the last century
and cannot see the way out of the old Cold War mentality we
may ask, “Can’t we all just get along?”
In reality the root cause of this bigotry is our ignorance of
modern China. There is a Chinese saying that we can all
learn. “It is far better to see for yourself once than hear about
it one hundred times.” So instead of holding on to our
prejudices, let us content with our own pride, open our hearts
and enjoy ourselves at the 2008 Olympic Games. For our
future world is a world of unity in diversity. Beijing has gone
out of her way to train large number of English speaking youth
guides to welcome us!
The world of the dominating empires is gone forever for all
nations. China desires integration as a responsible nation in a
harmonious world. We call for a unified world to stop
politicizing Olympics for ideological gains. The 21st Century

Dear Honorary Directors and Directors,
Following is World Harmony Organization team members list
heading various important Commissions up dated with C J Yin
and Farzam Kamalabadi added. WHO is a non profit public
benefit 501 tax code corporation. Our resident attorney is the
highly regarded Leon Jew who deigned our organization chart
for performance with parallel equal rank commissions. This
structure is also designed for maximum participation. Directors
are limited to 7 who's main function is to set up long range
goals to guide the various commissions and may not need to
be directly involved in any Commission work. Commission

Recently there are some very important break through with our
Ecology and Energy and U.S. China Relation Commissions. As
a result we have new honorary directors and directors who
are bringing a lot of resources and will play very important
roles in furthering the harmony Renaissance goals of WHO.

both are highly regarded society pillars with deep commitment
to the most great peace, harmony and U.S. China harmonious
relation. Farzam as an authority on China development and
one of the leaders of today's world oil industry scene. For

To put it in a meaningful way, I can venture to say that my
inventions are the cumulative experience and wisdom of many
years and many partners in appropriate renewable energy
development with enhanced environmental considerations..
The fact that the inventions were submitted for patent
applications recently by me only means that the awareness to
harmonize with nature has finally come of age be lately. Our
three green energy inventions include the use of atmospheric,
geothermal, hydro, solar, wave, wind and waste heat energies
for electric generation. Our inventions are low cost, easy to
manufacture and suited for rural and developing world
applications.
In each case, in the case of VPTG (an all in one venturi 360
degree VAT turbine that can harness atmospheric, wind,
geothermal and waste heat energy), HACG (hydraulic
compressed air power electric generator) and AWEG (an
induced wave power electric generator powered by alternate
gravity and buoyancy forces), we minimize the perturbation of
nature compared to conventional way of using renewable
energies. The VPTG VAT turbine is multidirectional compared
to uni- direction. The VPTG can funnel wind from the bottom
upwards along the venturi tube to the throat area for maximum
power utilization. My inventions can be readily scaled up or
down to suit community electricity use. We use natural
environments without the need to build elaborate civil
structures. In all cases we also minimize the use of precious
space. Think about the implications.
For conventional wave electric generators their size is
determined by the length of the natural wave in each locality.
Our AWEG can be scaled up and down independent of the
wave length of the body water. We induce the waves
according to our design (note the word induce). In a close
system, using cryogenic fluid as working media, the AWEG
invention is uniquely suitable as a superconducting electric
generator. The beauty of super conducting phenomenon is that
large amount of electricity can be generated in small cylindrical
spaces.
For Julia, Lin, and Leon who have heard my inventions
presentation many times over, most likely appreciate the
sweeping statement above. For those who have not heard my
presentations often I will be patient. Lin can you render above
statement into Chinese that will convey our noble intent to the
Chinese speakers also? Appreciate it.

Harmony Organization(WHO) was launched in
San Francisco on Saturday, with a call on all
countries to promote world peace based on
harmony.
WHO, a non-profit and non-governmental
organization and the first of its kind in the
world, is dedicated to the pursuit of World
Harmony Renaissance study and research, the
organization said in a press release.
"Harmony belongs to the world. The best social

system for sustainable development," said the

It said the organization was formed on the
basis of the harmony theory proclaimed by the
Chinese leaders in 2006.
"A major social harmony renaissance
movement is taking place in China today after
the 2002 announcement of the scientific
concept," said the release.
"We declare our theory 'World Harmony
Renaissance' is the breakthrough mankind is
waiting for the next level of accomplishment.
When our common values rise above the
current international conflicts through world
harmony renaissance our accomplishments
both scientific and cultural will soar."
"World religions and major human
philosophies as we all know were developed
about 2500 years ago," said Dr. Francis C. W.
Fung,an American researcher who founded the
organization.

period brought the second burst of human

THE IMPORTANCE OF CHINESE LANGUAGE TO MODERN
SUCCESS"

The importance of learning the Chinese language is not limited to the fact that
almost one fourth of the world’s population, in East and South Asia and the
rest of the world use it wholly or partly. Neither is the newly discovered
importance of Chinese language in world commerce and world affairs. Apart
from its uniquely beautiful calligraphy the Chinese language obviously also
has inherent world cultural significance. Most of all to the author, the Chinese
nation owes its repute as a nation of wisdom to the innovative cultural
formation of its language. This I will venture to elaborate in this
announcement. Learning the distinctly spatial Chinese words will expand the
mental capacity of citizens of the world who speak native phonetic tongues,
increasing their capacities for different types of intelligence. Added to this is
the cultural wisdom embedded in the formation of the characters, and in the
meaning of Chinese sayings. As most of the major languages of the word are
phonetic, a bilingual person who also speaks Chinese will exercise different
parts of his brain in their daily undertakings.
The Chinese nation with its continuous and uninterrupted history of 5000
years stands out among ancient nations of the world. Its language is early and
being non-phonetic is also unique among world languages. Chinese
pictographs or characters were discovered as early as 3000 years ago and
predated oracle bones. The Chinese characters were created by diverse
ingenious and imaginative ways throughout its long history. It is a collective
treasure of wisdom and art by design. Different from the world’s major
phonetic languages, the Chinese language consists of a system of more than
5000 basic characters instead of a limited number of letters in an alphabet.
This larger system of basic characters at one hand presents a challenge to
non native learners at the outset but it also renders Chinese a language of
wisdom as we shall soon realize.
From this creatively crafted system of basic characters, new words, two- word-
“nomenclatures” and four- word- “ Chinese sayings” (CHENG YU) are
innovatively created to suit evolution of times. For example the word
commonly meaning patience (REN) is the character knife edge (REN) held
above the character heart (XIN). The world martial (WU) is formed by the
character stop (ZI) and the character weapon (GE). The word war (ZAN) is
composed by two parts (DAN) and (GE) meaning unilateral and weapon. The
term crisis is formed by the two words meaning danger and opportunity (WEI
JI) simultaneously. The term harmony is made up of two words each of two
characters ( HE XIE) together they mean content and consensus. Thus the
words patience, martial, crisis and harmony impart deeper wisdom above mere
meaning for the common use of the words. This continuing development has
persisted without major disruption for 5000 years. A well learned Chinese
shows his pedigree by frequent use of these cultural related nomenclatures
and other famous sayings as explained in the following. Thus the Chinese
language incorporates the richness of the Chinese historical development
and culture.
There are many modern advantages to the Chinese language. The modern
Japanese and Korean languages evolved from heavy dependence of Chinese
words into phonetic languages during recent history. Because of the
usefulness and versatility of the Chinese characters, today many educated
Japanese and Koreans read Chinese characters and still prefer not to totally
divorce from the use of Chinese words. Most of all, the Chinese language is
attractive to those well heeled in the wisdom and cultural content of the
innovative words, nomenclatures and famous sayings mentioned previously.
Individual Chinese characters are monosyllabic, and the four character
sayings which embody Chinese wisdom are as short and as easy to learn and
memorize as acronyms in English. These acronyms like simple wisdom phrases
are handed down through generations and become the cumulative reservoir
of Chinese cultural jewels with deep meaning. Two most well known four word
idioms are (Zhi Ji Zhi Bi, Bai zhan Bai Sheng), together they mean “know
thyself and know thy enemy, hundred battles hundred victories.” This has
come to be one of the utmost important military strategies of all time. Because
it is simple and easy to remember like an eight letter acronym, even Chinese
kids know it by heart.
The other modern advantages of the Chinese language are many. Chinese
language is concise and compact. A similar length book in Chinese will take
half the space of a phonetic language book. Because of its compact
pictographs, Chinese writing lends itself readily for speed reading. As a
bilingual person of 50 years and receiving most of my education in America, I
can read Chinese books much faster than English books. This makes it
significantly less of a chore to go through long documents in Chinese than
English.
Chinese verbal commands are more limited in sounds, because the basic
system of characters are finite in number so are Chinese words. English
alphabets may be only twenty six but the sounds of phonetic English words
are infinite. Thus the first fully functional verbal input computer most likely will
be Chinese. The first Chinese language input computer is well advanced is
well on its way to commercialization. This will eliminate the key board input
disadvantage of Chinese language computer once and for all. Although
current key board input Chinese language computers are reasonably efficient,
the verbal input Chinese language computer may prove to be even more
efficient and easy to use.
As a bilingual person practicing a wide range of disciplines of study from
physical sciences to social sciences, from commerce to international affairs I
have discovered a curious phenomenon. Over the years I noticed that many of
my Chinese associates and myself are more adept in picking up new
disciplines of studies. It also seems rather easy for Chinese to practice new
discipline in late life. My personal career of over 50 years has included many
vastly different fields and professions. The reason may be the threshold of
crossing between various disciplines, is lower in Chinese language. Or
Chinese culture is a more flexible and harmonious from aeronautics to world
affairs. To reach definitive conclusion on this interesting premise will require
more detail analysis on the possibilities of the Chinese language and the
Chinese learning attitude.
One obvious observation that surfaces is the fact that Chinese nomenclatures
in different disciplines are more standardized because the meaning of the
common pictographs that makes the different jargons of the trades. In the
English language jargons, it is easy to deliberately create different new
jargons for different trades. By nature of the phonetic language infinite
number of words with different sounds can be created by combination and
permutation of the 26 alphabets. This does not necessarily make cross
discipline studies any easier. Because the Chinese system of basic characters
is finite, even when the Chinese nomenclatures appear to be different in each
discipline the pictographs will give away its intended meaning. The beauty of
the Chinese pictograph language system as opposed to the phonetic system
most of the world uses, is its relative simplicity. Once a Chinese learner knows
a relatively small sample of pictographs he is less likely to need the dictionary
when pursuing a new discipline. This significantly lowers the threshold of
cross discipline studies and communications.
This introductory announcement of the secrets of the Chinese words and
sayings is an excerpt of a compilation of the wisdom of ancient Chinese
language for modern success. This new compilation entitled “Secrets of
Chinese Words and Sayings: Ancient Wisdom for Success Today” goes beyond
the usual writings on Chinese wisdom for success. The compilation goes into
the secret roots of the Chinese words and language itself beyond the mere
scope of Chinese ancient philosophical and military wisdom in print. We

HARMONY DIPLOMACY ESSENTIAL FOR WORLD DEVELOPMENT

matter of fact, there exist fascinating relations among them that warrant
immediate global study. Some may wonder why freedom and democracy have
been so widely promoted during the last 400 years of human history, while
harmony was barely noted on the world stage."

to promote international diplomacy in the 20th Century. Harmony, as a great
unifying force in the on rush of globalization, has now come of age. Harmony is
mankind’s greatest common value. The conflicted world of today urgently calls

unavoidable tide. It is time to reawaken our innate human desire for harmony
and to begin urging others to recognise the value of this noble ideal."

In a recent book titled “Keeping Faith in our Values in a Dangerous World”,
Anne-Marie Slaughter, the renowned Dean of Princeton University Woodrow
Wilson Institute, advocated including tolerance, humility and faith in the
American system of values. She also suggested that America practice “value
based foreign policy” to improve our image, so that our spreading of human
rights and democracy can be more effective. Her theory is well founded but
short of the more universal ideal of harmony diplomacy and mutual win-win
development already in practice in various parts of the world. Harmony is an
ancient ideal that belongs to the world. It is accepted by many cultures East
and West. It is an extensive system of common values and certainly more
inclusive than just adding tolerance, humility and faith to the American value
system. One can also have faith in harmony, which in time will grow by way of
resonance. The truth of harmony diplomacy includes the spirit of working with
all nations in the world. Between any two countries there exist complementary
advantages for mutual win- win development. Preconception of incompatibility
is counter to harmony’s ideal of tolerance, acceptance and respect for others.
It also negates the value of humility in practicing tolerance and acceptance.
Madam Slaughter proposed working with NATO nations, English speaking and
other major nations for the propagation of American values and “value based
foreign policy”. Yet in her list of “preferred” nations, many significant nations
including China, Russia and other obvious nations who have disagreements
with U.S are noticeably absent.
"In the democratization of international relations, just and equitable
international political and economic orders can be established through
dialogue, negotiation and reaching consensus. The end result of international
democracy will release a new wave of world creative energy. Human
accomplishments can thus reach a new height of development beyond
European Renaissance."
"The Order of Nature is Harmony and Harmony is the Order of Nature. A
harmony world is essential to save our ecology. To rally major nations to
commit to a cleaner and better environment, harmony diplomacy must
advocate a common ecology consensus. Central to harmony diplomacy
consensus is built in awareness to curb global insatiable appetite for
consumption. Continuation of current trend is not sustainable. Without
harmony consensus, the resulting catastrophic global fight for resources will
be more immediate than the effect of climate change. It is time for all to
advocate less confrontational harmony diplomacy."

READER'S RESPONSE TO "WILL U.S. DEMOCRACY AND CHINESE HARMONY BE
HARMONIOUS IN 21ST CENTURY"

Francis Fung has recently turned his sights to the trend in American thought
that is decidedly unaware that people today may think as Lao Zi did 2500 years
ago that any and all death for whatever purpose is bad. There is a simple
equation that has faded into distant reminiscence that we need to get
reacquainted with immediately. It goes as follows: if A kills B, B is going to
want to kill A. This also works in the other direction. So, what winds up
happening is that A kills B and then B kills A, and then A kills B and B kills A
again and finally both B and A are so tired of fighting that they have forgotten
exactly what it was that began the whole mess in the first place. Their
economies have been destroyed and the people are miserable on both sides.
But, not to worry about all of that because, at least, no one in the world thinks
that they are a weak country. No one will dare say that they did not stand their
ground. No one will claim that they do not stand by their principles even if it
costs them thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of human lives.
If history holds any answers to future existence then I think it is high time that
we start to examine what those keys may be. It is certain that up until this point
there has never been an extended period of time of global peace and
harmony. At no time did the peoples of the world unite to abandon all time-
tested arguments and start fresh. The world, because it has never had the
chance to wipe the slate clean, and because my equation from earlier holds
true, is full of people who are constantly wandering the streets yearning for
revenge. Much of that vengeful spirit has been focused directly at the U.S.A.
because of their position of supreme power in the world today. This is the
country that decides for the rest of the world and because of that they have
more than the rest of the world and because of that they are envied by the
rest of the world and because of that, there is strife.
The only way that the people of the world are going to begin to let go of some
of that feeling of righteous hatred for the U.S.A. is if Americans stop flaunting
their supremacy in the faces of those who desire it. This means two things to
start with. First of all the spirit of harmony in business must be nurtured so
that other countries feel that they have the respect of the U.S.A. Secondly, and
more importantly, American foreign policy experts must embrace other
countries’ rights to develop their own system of governance as they see fit.
No country has the same history, culture, demographics, geography or
political climate as the U.S.A. No country can make a carbon copy print of
American democracy and set it in motion on their own terrain.
When China was the great superpower of Asia in ancient times, they were
called the Middle Kingdom because their influence made them the centre of
the world as people knew and understood it. New ideas erupted from China.
Artistic endeavour flourished in the fertile grounds of Chinese thought. China
simply had the most advanced thinking in various arenas and furthermore
urged that thought forward. Despite the fact that they, like America today, had
this stronghold, they did not venture out to impose their views on their
neighbouring countries. They were thrilled to provide instruction to envoys
that would come from far off with the desire for new light in thought. But it was
up to those who returned to their home countries to do with that perspective
what they would. It was for them to decide how this could help their country.
The Chinese were not so arrogant to think that because something had
worked for them that it would also work for another country in the same way.
Since the Cold War ended it has seemed that Might was Right. History has
continually tried to persuade us that, while this option seems infallible, it is
not going to have the lasting effects that those employing it had originally
hoped. It will lead to more and more people trying to prove that Might is Right
and then we have to look back to A and B again. The level of hostility that we
wade through on a day to day basis must be damaging to our health. This
constant fear that someone is going to explode something somewhere and
the next World War will rear its ugly head with explosive force, destroying all
we had worked for, can only be self-fulfilling unless we act now. The tide of
harmony has begun to gain currency. People around the world are starting to
see the value in trying to empathise with those, who, we are told are the
enemy, because they realise that the problems are not generally the problems
of the people that they affect, but the problems of those in power. Those with
everything enter these frays for their own personal gain, while the people
affected have nothing. Harmony brings positive qualities to everyone without
having to sacrifice human life. This is not to say that there is no sacrifice in
harmony, there is. The sacrifice of not maintaining rigid standards about
exactly how one’s life is carried out on a day-to-day basis, without thinking
about how those actions will impact on each and every person on the planet.
That is the main sacrifice that needs to be made in order for there to be true
harmony. Harmony begins with an all-encompassing global human awareness.
It is in that awareness that there is potential for people of the world to
advance to a new stage of living in the Harmony Renaissance.

HARMONY UNIVERSAL WORLD COMMON HERITAGE

BEIJING, May 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Since ancient times Religion, Democracy and
Harmony were passed down to us by our forefathers as the three main cultural
pillars. I have shared this fundamental observation with you often in previous
essays. In today's conflicted world full of extremism and unilateralism, the call
for harmony renaissance is a unifying global movement. It is essential to
sustain this spirit of harmony as our common heritage. Harmony belongs to
the world. In human development of civilization, only truth can stand the test
of history. Truth and common values belong to the world regardless of their
source and origin.
For many, we can practice democracy and religions as belonging to the world,
yet we are unaware of harmony as our common human heritage. Lasting
cultures do not develop by accident. Through long patient development they
were born of necessity, observation of nature, collective wisdom, and
worldwide propagation by resonance. The philosophy of Harmony is all
embracing, enduring and endearing. It advocates non-violence and problem-
solving by means of consensus. Its premises include equity, tolerance,
patience, acceptance, humility and respect for other cultures.
Equity and humility are the cornerstones of harmony practice. In the eyes of
harmony there is no nobility without humility. Individuals practicing harmony
require discipline, humility and the strongest conviction in gentleness,
especially when challenged by force and unilateralism. Every major civilization
practices harmony in one form or the other.
The roots of democracy can be seen in all cultures to some degree or other.
The rediscovery of the Greek and Roman Democratic tradition during the age
of European Enlightenment and Renaissance propelled democracy to its world
importance today. The movement also released our collective energy that
brought us modern science for the betterment of mankind. The world is
mature enough now to know that democracy is an important element in
modern governance. This is evidenced in the fact that almost all new nations
of today regard themselves democracies.
Today's challenges to world development are sustainability in a worsening
ecology, limitation of resources, and the extreme disparity between rich and
poor. In a world of cultural and historical diversity one must allow different
forms of democracy. The timely harmony renaissance will create the spirit of
unity in diversity and the collective consensus to solve the urgent problems
that face the world today. This will release a new wave of creative energy for
higher human accomplishments beyond what the European renaissance
brought.
With communication wonders today, harmony propagates by resonance with
Internet speed as stated in my essays "Harmony Propagates by Resonance"
and "Universal Wave Theory and Harmony Consensus". In today's
globalization, no nation can afford to insist on the self limiting "not invented
here" notion. Universally proven wisdom will outlast shortsightedness. What
is proven to be good is to be adopted and improved by each nation as their
own regardless of whether its source is east west or north south.. Simply put,
harmony is our common value and common human heritage. It will prevail.
It is clear that throughout human history even before there were defined
national boundaries; harmony was practiced as the oldest form of collective
philosophy. It is the inspiration for major belief systems. Religion was
practiced to keep harmony with the all mighty unknown, regardless of the form
in which we glorify the unknown. Democracy was instituted to keep harmony
between the government and its citizens. Moral values and legal systems
were elaborately developed in different countries to promote harmony in
human interactions. Family and social orders are also forms of harmony. The
noticeable lack of an emphasis on religion and legal systems in the ancient
Far East was undoubtedly due to the dominance of moral teachings by Laotze
and Confucius. Both relied on popularization of moral education to bring
harmony to human existence.
With the onslaught of globalization created by the wonders of communication,
there is veritably no excuse not to understand the diversity of cultures left by
5000 years of major regional cultural developments. Now that we are facing
the challenges of diversity in religious beliefs and development of democratic
governance systems, it is time for us to return to harmony philosophy in order
to create balance. There is every logical reason to examine harmony practices
in major cultures to bring some consensus to our troubled world.
From an analytical viewpoint, there appears to be definite differences in
regional emphasis and trends in harmony practice just as there will always be
differences in the inevitable adoption of democracy by all nations. Because
harmony is even more embracing than democracy as a human management
system we must accept diversity. Fortunately, different harmony cultural
practices are complementary in the sense of a total engineering system that
will enable prioritized world consensus to be reached. In the process we will
intuitively accept the simple truth that the best governance system for any
nation is its own harmony system. Harmony also embraces democracy.
In broad strokes subject to further in depth global studies, I venture to offer
for discussion the following major emphasis or trends in worldwide harmony
practices. For harmony practices to stand the test of time it must be a
universally acceptable common value and include nobility and humility as a
basic prerequisite.
(1) Major religions of today all include belief in harmony, otherwise they would
not have survived the test of history. It is taught by scriptures and reinforced
by preachers in houses of worship with few exceptions. The practice of
harmony is based, in part, on a fear of punishment by the almighty unknown
and the reward of going to heaven, rather than for the goodness of harmony
itself.
The further spread of religion is limited by two major factors. The first is the
fixation of modern religion to exclusively accept its own institutionalized
conception of the almighty unknown. The second is the waning authority of
the clergy within the community. Faith in the almighty as the savior of mankind
and submission to his will continue as the modus operandi of nobility and
humility to drive religion.
(II) Since the age of the European Enlightenment the concept of democracy
has spread far and wide. It is universally accepted as the foundation of good
governance. Nations in the midst of inevitable transformation all agree. True
democracy must blend in with each individual nation's cultural heritage and its
various stages of development. It takes evolution to truly bring harmony to a
society. Democracy must adapt to the harmony of dynamic balance in changing
times. The western democratic tradition, with America as the driving force,
relies heavily on complex legal practice and penal punishment. Law and order
has worked to bring harmony in that particular society.
No democratic system prescribed by one nation for another can be perfect for
our diverse world with systems developed regionally over 5000 years.
Unfortunately the noble goal of spreading democracy by any means necessary,
including overt political action and occupation, has greatly tarnished the
image of Western democracy. As Pan Ke-Moon, the current U.N. Secretary
General, stated in front of the recent Asian Development Forum "Democracy is
not an import export item". Still, empty marketing slogans bereft of
consideration for cultural diversity and history is drumming to the call of war
cries.
The noticeable lack of humility of past proselytizing processes of Euro-centric
democracy and colonialism left an irreparable chasm dividing developed and
developing countries. This suggests alternate approaches for the developed
world to help the needy. An approach of harmony, with its gentleness and
respect for all cultures, appears more palatable to the needy world for mutual
development. It is time for America, the young dynamic democracy with
abundant resources, to rise to the occasion.
(III) In the Far East harmony was practiced with heavy doses of moral
education. The system promulgated comprehensive moral teachings
reinforced by family unity and civil service examinations. This examination
system reached its extreme during the 19th century. A harmonious society is
supported more by family order and unity, than by law and order. Nobility and
humility are reinforced by education and morality and sacrifices are extolled
by all. Law was the bottom line with moral values taking precedence. A focus
on harmony creates a society where materialism and commercialism can
acceptably be placed in low priority positions.
With the onslaught of Western individualism and commercialism, the flood
gates of self indulgence and corruption were forced wide open. The
venerable ancient system of relying on education of nobility and humility was
shaken to the core. Today Far East nations including Japan and Korea have
adopted law and order to complement their moral value system, followed
closely by China in its reform and opening up. The successful transformation
of Japan and Korea from systems based on moral values and family unity to
their own individualistic modern democratic societies is worthy of attention.
Despite the fact that both societies were heavily influenced by foreign
cultures East and West, these modern societies have combined the best of
both worlds and their choices have flourished. Until very recent times, both
nations' histories were recorded in Chinese characters. Today both Japan and
Korea are proud of their own innovations culturally and scientifically.
This lends to the optimism that diverse culture, despite opposite ideals, can
be blended together resulting in modern, competitive and harmonious
societies. China today is determined and motivated to combine the best of
East and West to forge a harmonious society with its own characteristics, sans
outside occupation. The result is very encouraging and to be commended by
the outside world.
When the economic and scientific conditions are mature enough, and the
historical moment comes, politics will change. Nations will become
harmonious societies by their own resonance with external influence. Outside
force and constant chastisement can be counter-productive given the
probable impact on national dignity. Today, many parts of the world have
suffered the collective mental anguish of a loss of dignity under Western
dominance for far too long.
The truth can be seen that in this rapidly changing materialistic world, no
ready-made system is perfect in bringing harmony to the world. For unity in
diversity we need to call for world harmony renaissance and advocate

HARMONY DIPLOMACY: THE GOLDEN RULE OF GLOBAL GOVERNANCE

The “Rule of the Golden Mean” is a Western doctrine for balanced living and
proper handling of human contradictions. A comparable System of Belief in the
East is the “Way of the Golden Mean.” Contrary to conventional wisdom, the
philosophy of the Golden Mean is not against progress. It is the highest value
of progress through dialogue and consultation. Its true essence is to prevent
ideological extremism from taking hold. It is definitely opposed to the current
religious confrontational strife. That is why it is the value of Golden Mean. This
broad East and West concept of balance, when earnestly applied globally, can
be the solution for resolving extreme disparity between rich and poor,
minimizing religious confrontations and restoring ecological balance for
sustainable development.
In the current desire for good global governance we must also begin with
Harmony Diplomacy. Harmony Diplomacy, as defined here, can be the Golden
Rule of Global Governance. Harmony Diplomacy can be conceived as the
common value of the most fluid-like, dynamic balance; encompassing
tolerance, mutual respect, acceptance, equity and humility to achieve world
harmony. Truth in world affairs, unlike mathematics, often is the Golden Mean
between two opposite sides. When one powerful nation forcing its belief on
other weak nations as the only absolute truth, it ignores the reality of diversity
and defies reason. This is well documented by Al Gore in his most recent
book, “The Assault on Reason.”
The above theory, advancing human common aspirations in today’s conflicted
world, has been resonating worldwide. The author in resonance with world

Good global governance is the foundation for a harmonious world. To pursue
world harmony is the common destiny for the human race. Good global
governance must include new world political and economic order to build
international democracy. We must promote global cooperation through mutual
win-win development and resolve conflicts through dialogue and
consultation. We must strengthen the United Nation through needed reform to
discourage unilateralism and extremism. All these global undertakings can
only begin when major nations of the world start practicing Harmony
Diplomacy.
A grand strategy of Harmony Diplomacy to build world harmony must be able to
face the challenges of today’s unilateralism, extremism, rich and poor disparity
and ecology unsustainability. The important elements of a grand Harmony
Diplomacy strategy must include dialogue and consultation, win-win mutual
development, unity in diversity, tolerance and openness, equity and humility.
Harmony Diplomacy must act through equal, friendly and open dialogue and
consultation to achieve mutual understanding, trust and respect. This is to
accomplish the greatest possible harmony consensus among nations of the
world.
Harmony Diplomacy is to seek commonality and minimize confrontational
difference. In the desire to foster win-win common development we must take
a long strategic view.
The reality of the world is multi cultural and not all in sync of the path and
stage of development. We must accept and tolerate different economic and
political development. Old colonial mentality and big power chauvinism will
never be accepted again. By forcing our culture and value on weak nations is
counter productive to Harmony Diplomacy. The best governance system is a
nation’s own harmonious system developed from within in active interaction
with globalization.
The objective of Harmony Diplomacy is to pursue a higher level of human
accomplishment beyond European Renaissance through World Harmony
Renaissance. Harmony is an ideal; Renaissance gives it life. The human race
relieved of cultural conflicts, political infighting and religious strife will be
invigorated by new creative energy. This new found vigor will bring humans to
the next phase of true global development that we are waiting for.
To be more specific, through greater Harmony Consensus we will minimize the
chances of war and bring about more lasting peace. Without Harmony
Consensus, peace can only be temporary. When nations set their sights on
win-win mutual development, common world prosperity can be realized. In so
doing, the rich and poor disparity can be reduced and the North and South
gap breached. The world will be more level. All nations can finally enjoy the
fruits of our common cultural and economic accomplishments.
Harmony Consensus, encompassing harmony with nature is the order of
nature. It will rally world citizenship to be more conscious and united to
protect our common environment. For world sustainable development we
must at last move in lock step to strive to conserve energy and resources and
protect the environment. As severe as the effects of climate change may be,
the world will run out of precious resources sooner because of the current
wonton consumption.
Most of all, the current world order is far from democratic. Harmony Diplomacy,
through the essential principle of dialogue, consultation, negotiation and
harmony consensus, can pave the way for a more just and democratic world
order. In Harmony Renaissance, we can finally rediscover the wisdom of
tolerance, acceptance, mutual respect and humility. The harmony universal
common value will give the human race the necessary true inner peace and
strength, to face the diverse and daunting challenges of a world in
catastrophic disharmony and extreme self- destruct- selfishness.
